Day 4 -
After a delicious breakfast, we were toured by a local tour guide to visit Oki Shrine and Akiyakaigan (明屋海岸). The tour guide passionately introduced us to the history of Oki Islands when the former emperor was exiled from the Kyoto Prefectures after a political struggle. He then brought us to kaigan that showed the magnificent natural landscape. The coastal landforms came in different shapes and colors, with variation in formation and composition.

We then departed from Dozen and arrived at Dogo in the afternoon. We visited the Oki High School. The students were enthusiastic and had quite some interesting conversations with our students.
They also sat in their lessons and had a sharing about Hong Kong Geopark. They then discussed about the natural heritage, local comics, cultural heritage and the respective government policies in different own countries. Upon their departure, we prepared gifts from Hong Kong to show our goodwills and thankfulness to their hospitality. It was another fruitful day and students wrote their reflections about their learning at the trip!

Day 3 was another exciting day when we travelled to Oki Islands by ferry. We were greeted with representatives from the Oki Islands Geopark with great warmth and hospitality. We hopped on sightseeing boat and sparked off our journey in the coast of Oki Islands. The rocks and stones in different shapes and sizes were formed by volcanic eruption and wave eruption. Students were given a detailed introduction about the formation of these rocks as well as the myths and stories created by people here. It was a long and fruitful day of learning. Last but not least, the day was ended with another feast prepared by the staff and students had the chances to try the local food here!

Day 2 had been a fruitful journey when Law Ting Pong Secondary School students were joined by students from Tottori Keiai High School. We have also visited the sand dunes and learnt about how the dunes are formed. Students had a great time here especially with the company of the Tottori students!

At the evening, students had a scrupulous dinner with pork fillet and pearl rice. It was then followed by a small group debriefing session done by Mr Mak and Ms Ngai on their learning of the day. The night was ended with a short trip to Seven Eleven! The students headed off to a convenient store with their teachers to get ice-cream and cup noodles! Time for some rest and get ready for another fruitful day :)

This is the location of Japan's Largest Sand Dunes: Leading Attraction of the San'in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark These are some of the largest sand dunes in Japan. These dunes are located in the corner of the San’in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark in the eastern part of Tottori Prefecture. The fumon (wind patterns) are one of the highlights here. This is a beautiful phenomenon interwoven with nature in which wave patterns are drawn on the entire surface of the sand. There are various ways to have fun here. You will also find the Sand Museum adjacent to these dunes. This is the only museum in the world to display sculptures made from sand. You will surely be impressed by the many magnificent sand sculptures formed with just sand and water.
